NOTE: This counter is currently down. Read the counter news page for details. If you found out about this counter before finding out about this page, please send me mail and describe how you found out about my counter.
Many webmasters do not give their users cgi-bin access. You can read my feelings on cgi-bin restriction to see why.
I have set up forms to register your counter use. You will not get a confirmation when you register your counter. E-mail requests for a confirmation will be ignored. Also, I have set up a counter status query page.
You can e-mail me any questions about your counter that are not answered by the query page. Make sure you include in your message the URL of the page containing the counter and the tag your counter uses, otherwise I'll not be able to check anything and you will probably not get a response.
I've also pulled my todo list out of the news section. I won't be updating this as often as I write code, but it's there.
In the past, I have had problems with people advertising my counter--either mentioning it in news groups or telling everyone at their site how to use it, or by posting in their page how to use it. DON'T DO THIS. I do not want ANYONE using my counter until they've read this page. Specifically, please read the rules section. Refer them to this page (http://www-mae.engr.ucf.edu/~ssd/counter.html) instead.
If you see a page or public message that advertises my counter without referring to this page, please send them hate mail for me! :) Also please respond to it publicly, referring them to this counter page.
If you see a news message about a counter from someone other than the person who owns the counter that explains how to use it without mentioning the implications or referring them to the author, the poster probably deserves to be flamed.
If you have problems with my counter, please check this page and the news page for updates before sending me e-mail. I have a mailing list set up, but I haven't recently had time to send out notifications on it, and not everyone is on it. You might want to register to fix this. When I bring the counter back online, it will be back on a different port number, so if you want to be notified, register!
Please read the rules in the documentation section to make sure your counter URL is valid before complaining to me that it doesn't work. If you think it is valid and it still doesn't work, send me mail.
Also, I'd like to solicit for people who want to set up "regional" counter servers. When I bring the counter back online, I hope to be able to sort things out and maybe spread my load around a little; also, hopefully the registration process will be more automated and will redirect users to "regional" counters... If you would like to become a regional counter, set up the counter and get it working, and then register your counter server.
I have set up forms to register your counter use or your counter server. This is NOT a substitute for sending me mail--if you need an e-mail response from me, or want to attempt to justify your counter use, send me e-mail too. Also, I have set up a counter status query page.
